It’s Monday, February 13th | What Are You Reading?

Sorry for the unexplained absence. Stress, and stuff. At least I’ve been reading! I flew through Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing, which was nothing short of amazing. Is it sad that I feel like I flew through it, when in reality it took me ten days to read? Ahhhh, new realities.

I’m still going to try to get through another few Tournament reads, but honestly, am losing interest in the short list a bit. Many of them I’m just not feeling right now, which is fine. I’ve made it through seven titles so far, and in my opinion, that’s not too shabby. I don’t plan to force any of them on myself, as I have been known to do in years past. With that being said, I decided to give a stab atVersion Control, and so far so good one chapter in. Mostly, I’m giving this beheamouth book a chance, because Julianne told me to. That’s reason enough, amiright?

I also started listening to Big Little Lies on audio, and am utterly delighted by the narrator. I find myself weirdly smiling while driving and listening, and I suspect it’s completely because of her flawless delivery. I have enjoyed Moriarty’s writing style in the past, and I’m hoping to watch the HBO release in a (somewhat) timely manner.

I hope your week goes as well as can be expected these days, and you find time to cherish and enjoy little things of high significance. For me, it was my son belly laughing continuously yesterday, my super-strong cup of black coffee this morning over an impromptu delicious breakfast date with The Hubs, and my dog currently sleeping with her cold snout in the crook of my elbow.

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

  • Laurel-Rain Snow

It’s been a while since I read Big Little Lies, but I’m eager to watch the HBO miniseries. I know they’ve changed the setting…I’m trying to approach it with lowered expectations.

    Enjoy your week. Here are

    • Lowered expectations is probably safe. I’m hoping it’s good. I feel like I’m not really watching any good TV right now… but that might just be a “me” thing.

  • Don’t feel bad- I gave up ToB before i even started! Somehow I always psych myself out and of all the years to challenge myself this is not a good one. I’m already feeling challenged!

I think you’ll like Version Control- I loved how my perceptions changed the further in I got.

I am reading Lincoln in the Bardo and absolutely loving it.

    • Glad you’ve found a keeper. I have that one on hold at the library, audiobook version. I feel like I told you this already on your blog… right? I think I might try one more after Version Control, and that then will probably be that as far as the ToB goes. I like ready enough to play along, but never seem to be able to get to all of them. Plus a few of them, I just have ZERO interest in picking up. It’s all good.

  • Haha – a little nugget will definitely bring you a new reality! Glad you loved Homegoming!

And funny that you loved the BLL narrator…I HATED the sound of her voice..even though I generally love Australian accents. But I also just have issues with her books in general – too much mommy politics for me. Maybe b/c it’s too close to the stuff I hate in real life 🙂

    • I can TOTALLY see not like the BLL narrator, but for some reason she is working for me swimmingly. I’m dreading mommy war stuff. I don’t get *too* much of it at daycare, but I’m sure it’s unavoidable once he starts school. A few years out from that yet 🙂

  • I liked Version Control! I will be interested to see what you think when you finish it.

Enjoy your little guy’s laughter. I’m certainly snuggling my kids this week.

  • Hey hey, we’re reading twins! I’m reading Version Control as well. So far it’s a scootch slow, but they’re talking more about time travel at the bit I’ve reached now. The bit where Rebecca was online dating nearly broke me — she’s SUCH A JERK when she’s doing the online dating thing, and Philip’s SO WEIRD, and I was close to out except I was on the bus so I didn’t have anything else to switch to.

    • I’m only a chapter in, but am looking forward to seeing where it goes. We can chat about it later if we both make it through to the end, DM me when you’re done, and I’ll do the same 🙂

  • Ooh I’ll definitely be checking out Big Little Lies on audio. I can’t resist a good narrator. Hope you have a less stressful week!

  • I’m so happy you read Homegoing!!!! It really is amazing. I loved Big Little Lies and the school yard scandal of it all. I wish I had listened to while reading it; It worked so well for me with Only Love Can Break Your Heart and The Help. I hope you enjoy it, and welcome back!

  • Julianne’s recs are always a good reason. I was less interested in the TOB list this year than I usually am. I’m really enjoying free-ranging it lately. I hope you enjoy Version Control! Definitely want to give it a go at some point when the mood strikes. Also Homegoing! Maybe I’ll listen to that one.
